Meet Dr. Ettienne van Zyl

Dr. van Zyl, after graduating 1st in the UT Dental School class of 1995, completed a post graduate residency in Combined Prosthodontics in 1997, and continued his quest for a better understanding of how all parts of the body function together as one unit. Realizing, not one part of the body can be an island to itself, his treatment philosophy today is based on a proven physiologic model. He says, “For too long dentistry has been blind or ignorant of the impact the teeth, jaw position and supporting musculature have on the rest of the organism. You are more than just a set of pretty white teeth. Harmony of all systems equals health.”

Our advanced and comprehensive dental services change lives daily by improving our patients’ overall health and wellness. In addition to healthy teeth and gums, a modern approach to oral health includes optimal jaw development and position, which play major roles in overall wellness. Many factors such as our soft and refined diets, food and environmental allergies, sedentary lifestyle and our everyday postures can prevent optimal development of the upper and lower jaws and the airway. Utilizing a carefully calibrated orthopedic and orthodontic Facial Growth approach, we are able to alter the shape and sizes of the jaws in both adults and children with a non-surgical treatment. This treatment can eliminate chronic migraine-like headaches, TMJ pain and drastically reduce the number of apneic episodes for those suffering with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This revolutionary approach also delivers some spinal health benefits, including spontaneous Forward Head Posture (FHP) correction as well as the resolution of some forms of scoliosis. Our comprehensive approach to health and wellness, results in beautiful smiles, beautiful faces and restored quality of life back for sufferers of chronic headaches, migraines, neck, back and TMJ pain, as well as sleep breathing disorders.
